Special Events

Peninsula Arts Council is partnering with Sustainable San Mateo County and Goodwill Industries to bring an inaugural art auction to San Mateo County this summer.

Organizers are asking prominent artists in our community to donate paintings, sculptures, and other art forms which will be displayed and sold at the event on August 12th, 2010.

The theme of the auction is “Sustainability for Positive Change”. Ideas for this theme include but are not limited to recycling, environmental conservation, and clean energy. They are encouraging donors to use goods from their stores and their electronic recycling facility in their work. If you are interested in doing so, please don’t hesitate to contact Susan Harkness, Sustainable San Mateo County at Susanne@sustainablesanmateo.org , tel. 650-638-2323 or Arnab Pal, Goodwill Industries at: apal@sfgoodwill.org, tel. 925-699-9681.

Digital pictures of your work will be displayed on Goodwill’s online store prior to the auction. All donated art will be displayed by the Peninsula Arts Council at the event. Contributing artists will receive 2 free tickets to the event and their works will be sold via silent auction. The proceeds from all donations will be equally distributed between Sustainable San Mateo County and Goodwill Industries and will directly serve members of our community. Organizers are expecting over 150 local business owners and residents to attend. The material costs of your donated work will also be tax deductible.

October Arts & Humanities Month

Held every October, National Arts and Humanities Month is a coast-to-coast collective celebration of culture in America.  Coordinated by the organization, Americans for the Arts, it is the largest annual celebration of the arts and humanities in the nation. www.americansforthearts.org

The California Arts Council also participates in this campaign and offers an annual Arts Day Celebration held on the first Friday of October, 2, 2009.  http://www.cac.ca.gov/artsday/index.php

This is the fifth year that the Peninsula Arts Council has participated in this visibility campaign. The tour and luncheon also marks the first of many future cultural excursions planned by the Peninsula Arts Council.  By showcasing the County’s many, often hidden, cultural offerings, the PAC hopes to foster development of San Mateo County as a Destination for Arts, Parks and Culture.
